SOMETIMES THE PEOPLE YOU KNOW THE LEAST ARE THE ONES YOU NEED THE MOST.
Marvin, a man incapacitated and bed-ridden from a stroke 17 years prior, is cared for by his daughter Bessie (Diane Keaton) in their Florida home. His other daughter Lee (Meryl Streep), moved to Ohio with her husband 20 years ago and hasn’t communicated with her family since.
Now, Bessie’s doctor (Robert DeNiro) has informed her that she has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant and she is forced to turn to her sister for help. Lee turns to her son Hank (Leonardo DiCaprio), who has been committed to a mental institution for setting fire to his mother’s house, to help save Bessie. When Lee finds that she may have to take over her father’s care, she at first begins shopping around for nursing homes, but eventually the once estranged family grows close.
